One of California's - perhaps the world's - premier wine grape growing regions, Alexander Valley has transformed radically in fifty years from a quiet, seldpm-visited vale of prune plums to a favorite destination of both sippers and cyclists.

While the former can choose selecively among twenty wineries, the latter will be seen, and must be respected, peddling seventy miles of scienic valley flats or an equal number of miles climbing as steeply as 15% to ascend 3,000 vertical feet up the Mayacamas Mountains.
