Farming is not only dangerous, uncertain, laborious, and tedious, it is also visually beautiful. The land, the machines, the crops, and especially the people who devote their lives to feeding the world are fascinating and beautiful in multiple ways.

I am lucky to have become good friends with a family farming over a thousand acres of Butte County rice land. They have generously allowed me to follow their farm through seasons of preparation, planting, cultivating, and harvest. These images are a small selection of what I've observed.
