All of these fascinating details were found while walking on the Petaluma River Ranch. In addition to its very evident hay fields, the ranch, being up to fifteen feet below river high water, is drained by a web of ditches and drains which collect water pumped back up into the river.

These fields and flows are home to a wide variety of estuarial ecosystems, providing habitats for resident populations of deer, rabbits, hawks, crows, ducks, geese, cranes, blackbirds, otters, and much more.
